Peace Torch Expected Early
The Antorcha Centroamericana de
la Paz (Central American Torch
for Peace) is expected to reach
Costa Rica earlier than
expected. The torch was handed
over to El Salvador authorities
two days earlier than expected
and will reach Costa Rica by
September 13 and not September
15, Independence Day in Costa
Rica.
The torch is expected to be
handed over Costa Rican
authorities in the early morning
of Thursday the 13th at the
Peñas Blancas border, after
leaving Nicaraguan soil.
Miguel Ángel García, the
Ministro de Educación, Cultura y
Deportes of Nicaragua, will hand
over the torch to Leonardo
Garnier, who will hand the torch
over to a group of students who
will then begin their trek
through Costa Rica.
The torch began its journey in
Guatemala on September 1 and
will then be passed on the
Panama after leaving Costa Rica.
The torch represents peace and
unity in the region.
