Daniel Ortega s Bloc Pans out
The proposal of a National
Convergence presented by
ex-Nicaraguan president Daniel
Ortega is succeeding with the
reincorporation of former
critics and opponents to the
Sandinista National Liberation
Front (FSLN).
Sixty days before the general
elections, several former
supporters of conservative
parties and renowned liberals
have joined Gran Unidad
Nicaragua Triunfa platform.
Likewise, former FSLN members
that had grown distant for
personal reasons have returned
to the political group.
Previously, the Sandinista union
received the support of the
orthodox Nationalist Liberal
Party, whose leader Constantino
Velasquez applauded the call for
reconciliation of the Nicaraguan
family.
According to opinion polls,
Ortega´s candidacy is favorite
for the November 5 elections
with a 30 percent popular
support and a 6 point-lead over
his closest rival.
