Latin America Body Breaks
Ecuador Deal
The Latin American Energy
Organization (OLADE) Thursday
suspended an agreement to foster
a saving strategy in Ecuador,
due to pressures by the local
energy ministry.
"The emergency plan for Ecuador
s energy efficiency has been
brought to an end," due to the
interference and influence of
the national energy ministry,
OLADE sustained in a release
signed by its executive
secretary Alvaro Rios.
Rios told Ecuador Energy
Minister Ivan Rodriguez "top
ministerial spheres have pushed
the organization to include
Percrea Company in the energy
saving campaign.
"OLADE accepted that mission
precisely to provide
independence and clarity to the
whole process, and cannot
tolerate such meddling," Rios
recalled.
The OLADE-encouraged strategy
would have allowed Ecuador to
save 70 million dollars in
diesel purchases in a six-month
period.
