Ortega Claims End to Poverty in Win
Presidential candidate Daniel Ortega has asserted that the Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN) is the only force willing to wipe out poverty, which affects 80 percent of Nicaraguans.

Thursday evening, speaking at an act in Leon, 90 kilometers northeast of Managua, he promised that a Sandinista win would guarantee the necessary budget to generate jobs and better health and education.

Ortega, the frontrunner in the electoral race for the November 5 vote, also committed to eradicating blackouts in Nicaragua and tapping its rich hydrologic and thermal resources.

However, he warned that national unity is indispensable to achieve those goals.

In the meantime, conservatives, former opponents and rightist militants decided to join the FSLN coalition and give a vote of confidence to Ortega, faced with economic failure of the neoliberal policies in the last sixteen years.
