Venezuela Uncovers US Meddling
Venezuelan authorities today denounced a destabilization plan by the United States in a last ditch attempt to defeat President Hugo Chavez in the elections of December 3.

Interior and Justice Minister, Jesse Chacón, said the plan prepared in Miami aims to unbalance the domestic financial sector and security system.

In declarations to the press, he revealed that there was a meeting in that city to review a survey of Miami University that gives Chavez 59 intention points.

As a result and due to only 24 percent for the closest opposition candidate, an investigation was made on request of the extreme right of the Cuban emigrees, the Venezuelan minister noted.

Also a meeting was held with opposition residents in the United States and "others who had fled to that city" who planned to destabilize the financial sector and security system.

Chacon pointed out that the government is prepared to control any situation and "will not hesitate to jail anyone who should be in prison, that I can guarantee".

Carlos Rivas, student leader of the School of Sociology at the Central University of Venezuela, reported incidents yesterday in the center where homemade bombs exploded and shots were fired in the air.

Rivas also declared that given the clear advantage of Chavez in the surveys, there are sectors interested in "heating up" the universities.

Chavez has warned of plans to eliminate him due to the impossibility of winning in the elections while covert armed groups have been reported in different parts of the country.

Main opposition candidate Manuel Rosales is panhandling a neoliberal program and alignment with the United States government.
