Lula Gains Party and Political
Support
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio
Lula da Silva, acquired new and
important support for his
reelection Tues, when PCB party
(Comunista Brasileno) and two
politicians from the southern
states of Parana and Santa
Catarina declared in his favor.
In a conversation with Prensa
Latina, PCB President Zuleide
Farias confirmed that a Central
Committee resolution, orienting
national political affiliation,
decided to favor Lula in the
October 29 second round.
In the first round on October 1,
PCB fulfilled its obligations as
part of Frente de Izquierda,
integrated also by PSOL (Socialismo
y Libertad) and PSTU (Socialista
de los Trabajadores Unidos), as
well as social movements that
promoted Heloisa Helena s
candidacy.
In the last few hours it was
also learned that two
gubernatorial candidates
abandoned neutrality in the
presidential dispute and
declared their support for Lula.
Parana Gov. Roberto Requiao,
PMDB (Movimiento Democratico
Brasileno), who had criticized
Lula s economic policy,
expressed he "is on President s
side due to his proven strength
and seriousness of character."
Political leader Esperidao Amin,
PP Progesista, declared his
support to Lula in Concordia,
which caused a celebration
sponsored by Lula s PT (Trabajadores).
