Ortega to Bury Wild Capitalism
The presidential candidate of
the Sandinista National
Liberation Front (FSLN), Daniel
Ortega, promised to bury "wild
capitalism," which he blamed for
all the evils affecting
Nicaragua.
On November 5, the people will
destroy savage capitalism with
the power of ideas and love, the
Sandinista leader stated last
night before thousands of
followers in Managua.
Ortega said that throughout 16
years of neoliberal governments,
over 800,000 Nicaraguans have
emigrated looking for jobs, and
the poverty level has increased,
affecting up to 80 percent of
the population.
"It is imperative that a
profound change be made, a
spiritual revolution beginning
with reconciliation, so that
fierce capitalism can be
annihilated forever," he
stressed.
The former president (1979-1990)
is heading the intention of
votes in all polls, and is very
likely to win in the first
round.
Despite the apparent advantage,
Ortega called for his supporters
to vote the first Sunday of
November, when national and
departmental deputies will be
elected as well.
