Panama, More Drugs Contaminated
Panamanian health authorities
are on alert on Tuesday after
discovering more medicines
contaminated with the industrial
substance Diethylene Glycol, the
cause of at least 22 deaths so
far.
Investigations confirmed signs
of the medication in four
expectorant syrups made by
Social Security Fund (SSB).
Faced with that situation, the
Health Ministry urged the
population to not consume any
SSB product and implemented
restrictive measures against the
drug Lisinopril, considered the
cause of the strange disease.
To date, authorities have report
58 cases, from them 32 in
hospital, 22 dead and four are
in outpatient treatment.
The crisis has been sharply
criticized by politicians and
organizations that demand to
know what happened and the
application of administrative
measures.
