LatAm-Carib-EU Update before Summit
European, Latin American and Caribbean high-ranking officials will meet on Friday to analyze inter-regional relations and prepare a work agenda for the next Summit, set for 2008 in Peru.

The meeting will be opened by the Saint Kitts and Nevis Foreign Relations Minister Timothy Harris and continue until Saturday, will also center on cooperation and other controversial issues for both regions.

The demand of the developing bloc for the EU to open its markets and reduce subsidies on rural productions is historic.

Both geographical areas have similar population rates (455 million in Europe and 530 millions in Latin America and the Caribbean), however, their income levels are quite different.

The UN reforms, condemnation of the Helms-Burton Law endorsing the blockade on Cuba and migration are matters in which participants in the prior summits could not get to objective agreements.

Friday s meeting will stand as continuation of the Fourth Summit of the European Union-Latin America and the Caribbean held in Vienna, Austria, in May.
