Honduras, 30 Youth Die in 30
Days
The Honduran NGO Casa Alianza
denounced the murder of 30
Hondurans under 23 years old in
September, killed both by police
officers and persons unknown.
Casa Alianza, a human rights
defender of Latin American
children and youth, said Friday
that 28 of the murders were
probably by criminals and two by
public order agents.
In the eight months since
President Manuel Zelaya took
office, 308 children,
adolescents, and people under
23, have lost their lives
violently, an average of 39
deaths a month, the NGO noted.
Casa Alianza began to take note
the denouncements of relatives
of the victims and began a legal
support program in 1998, which
now tallies 3,303 murders, most
of them still unpunished.
