Daniel Ortega Promises
Investments
Daniel Ortega, candidate of the
Sandinista National Liberation
Front (FSLN) and polls favorite,
promised to guarantee private
investments in Nicaragua.
At a meeting with tourism
businesspeople and investors,
Ortega said they are convinced
the sector is vital to buoy up
the Nicaraguan economy and
generate jobs.
He also promised to forward
investments in agriculture.
Even though he is the
frontrunner in the electoral
drive, the FSLN leader needs a
minimum 35 percent of valid
votes and a 5-point lead over
his closest rival to win the
presidency in the November 5
election.
As he has never achieved such
figure a runoff is expected.
Ortega is followed by Eduardo
Montealegre, from the Nicaraguan
Liberal alliance, Edmundo
Jarquin, of the Sandinista
Renovator Movement, Jose Rizo,
fielded by the Constitutionalist
Liberal Party, and Eden Pastora,
of the Alternative for Change.
