US Interference In Nicaragua Elections
US interference in Nicaragua brazenly revived this week, this time by the hand of congressman Dan Burton, who warned Nicaraguans who they should not vote for on November 5.

The Indiana state House representative stated clearly that Washington would not approve an eventual victory of the Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN) and its candidate Daniel Ortega.

It is important that the Nicaraguan people know what could happen if they return to a kind of government like that of the 80s, the conservative legislator warned shortly before concluding a 36-hour visit to this capital.

After shaking the ghosts of war and the economic blockade imposed by Washington on the Sandinista Revolution (1979-1990), Burton warned that Ortega s arrival to power could put at stake the relations with the United States.

The threats were launched after Burton failed his mission to pressure the rest of the candidates, to achieve creation of a common front against the Sandinista candidate, who is still heading the polls.

The unifying efforts of the congressman, a US rightwing hawk, had gone to waste, because none of the three politicians he met, he appeared willing to reject his presidential candidacy.
