Social Investment Erodes
The per capita public social
investment dropped 6.3 percent
during the last three years, the
2006 State of the Nation Report
found.
This reduction implies that the
inhabitants receive ever less
aid from the State in services
such as health, education,
security, social aid, housing,
culture, and recreation.
The situation is further
aggravated by the fact that the
average real income of workers
dropped 3.7 percent in 2005, as
compared to 2004, and furthered
the slanted trend that saw it
decrease by 5.8 percent in 2004,
as compared to 2003.
However, not all is bad news,
since satellite images show an
expansion of the green cover of
the country, while life
expectancy in 2005 was the
highest ever recorded, with 76.9
years for men and 81.4 years for
women.
