Cuba Ratifies Position of NAM on
Human Rights
(Prensa Latina) Cuba ratified
the rejection and condemnation
to the selectivity and
double-standard policy in the
promotion and protection of the
human rights on behalf of the
Non-Aligned Countries Movement.
Cuban Delegate Luis Alberto
Amoros, representing the country
chairing the NAM Coordination
Bureau at instances of the UN,
highlighted the position of the
Movement at the Third Commission
of the General Assembly.
The intervention of the Cuban
diplomat was encouraged by the
presentation of projects of
resolution against the NAM by
the US, the European Union and
others.
The official recalled that the
exploitation of the human rights
with political aims, including
the selective appointment of
some countries for non-pertinent
considerations should be
prohibited as agreed in the
Summit recently held in Havana.
Amoros remarked the respect of
NAM for the principles and
purposes established by the UN.
Cuba, in its condition of
President of the Movement,
encourages all the members to
respect those principles when
voting the countries´ specific
resolutions during the present
General Assembly, the official
asserted.
