Nicaragua Certifies Ortega Win
One hundred percent of votes counted at the 11,274 polling sites opened November 5 in Nicaragua confirmed Sandinista Daniel Ortega as the president elect.

The Supreme Electoral Council s (CSE) results revealed Ortega finally obtained 37.99 percent of valid votes, with nine points over his closest adversary.

According to the CSE count, to be made official after possible challenging by the political parties involved in the electoral race, Ortega had 930,862 votes of the 2,449,901 valid ballots.

Second place went to the candidate of the ALN (Nicaraguan Liberal Alliance), Eduardo Montealegre, with 693,391 votes (28.30 percent), while Jose Rizo, of the PLC (Liberal Constitutionalist) party was third, with 664,225 (27.11 percent).

In Parliament, the Sandinista National Liberation Front will occupy 38 seats, while the PLC will be the second largest parliamentary force, with 25 seats, though it was third in the electoral race. The ALN obtained 22 and the MRS 5.

The results prove the forces will not even accumulate the relative majority of 47 deputies needed to pass ordinary laws, and much less the 56 votes to make an eligible majority or the 62 to reform the Constitution.
