Former Pastor Kills Daughter
Then Commits Suicide
The Organismo Investigación
Judicial (OIJ) find themselves
investigating the suicide and
murder of a former pastor in
Envaco in the province of Limón,
where the friendly and quiet
man, in a moment of rage,
according to friends, become a
merciless man.
Police are investigation the
reason why José Antonio Barrera
Martínez, a Salvadorian national
and former pastor, took his own
life and that of his daughter,
Martiza Barrera, after a heated
discussion at a bus stop some 50
metres from their house at
10:30am Sunday.
Witness say the man pulled out
his pistol and shot the woman.
As she lay on the ground
agonizing, the man seemed out of
it, pulled the trigger again to
end the girl's life and then
pointed it to his temple and
shot himself. Roberto Delgado,
who was in his dining room said
"the man put the gun to the side
of his head, pulled the trigger,
and died."
Both bodies lay beside each
other on the sidewalk, the gun
still in the hand of the former
pastor.
The Cruz Roja (Red Cross) on the
scene took the girl's body to
the Tony Facio hospital where
she was pronounced dead. The
coroner took the man's body from
the scene, as residents of the
area looked horrified at what
had just occurred in their quiet
neighbourhood and a calm and
tranquil man known to them.
