Caribbean Tourism is Ahead of
the Game
Tourism is a natural area of
opportunity for the Caribbean to
face the challenges of its
economy, said Prime Minister
Tony Blair.
When addressing the conference
"Transforming the Caribbean
economy -new avenues for
investment", held here on
November 2, Blair said the
region has to take its strengths
and develop them as far as
possible.
British government institutions
and the private sector called
for creating a friendly
environment in the Caribbean
toward British capital
investments. To that end, the UK
works with the Caribbean Hotel
Association (CHA) to develop a
Caribbean Tourist and Investment
Fund.
Prime Minister Blair recognized
that following the loss of the
European Union's preferential
treatment for Caribbean
products, the transition to a
new economy is fraught with
challenges.
The conference was aimed at
senior decision-makers in the
international business community
and the wide range of
intermediaries who inform
investment decisions.
Cable Wireless International was
the principal business partner
for the conference, according to
a CHA press release.
