Ex Nicaraguan President
Barred from Europe
Nicaragua's ex President Arnoldo
Alemán, now accused of
corruption, who also faces
trials in Panama and the US for
alleged money laundering, is
today a persona non grata in
Spain and another 14 European
countries.
The announcement was made in a
press report by the Spanish
embassy in Managua, without
telling the reasons that led
Madrid to ban the entrance of
the ex president.
"The Spanish embassy in Managua
informs that the government
decided on May 23, 2006, to
proscribe the entrance of
Nicaraguan citizen Jose Aleman
Lacayo in Spain for ten years",
says the text.
The note adds that according to
the Convention Implementing the
Schengen Agreement, the ex
president cannot enter Germany,
France, Belgium, The
Netherlands, Luxemburg,
Portugal, Italy, Greece,
Austria, Denmark, Sweden,
Norway, Finland and Iceland.
The Spanish consul in Nicaragua,
Manuel Sels, made no comments to
press.
