The
Pineapple: Best Served At Room
Temperature
Because most of the sugar
content in a pineapple is in the
bottom half of the fruit, the
best way to serve pineapple is
in long spears. That way, all
your guests receive some of the
very sweet and some of the not
as sweet.
Peel the pineapple and then
slice.
The "Piña Dorada" or Golden
Pineapple, the low-acid golden
varieties, mostly from Costa
Rica, Honduras and Guatemala, is
one of the sweetest pineapples
in grocery stores today.
They sell for about us$3.99 each
in the U.S. and Canada, but
under us$1 in Costa Rica.
To pick the right pineapple,
Make sure the crown is filled
with firm, green leaves, a sign
of freshness. Sniff the bottom
of the pineapple. If it smells
like Hawaii, it will be good.
Leave the pineapple out before
serving. Pineapple served at
room temperature will have a
fuller, sweeter flavor.
