Guatemala, Violence Increases
Three armed individuals Thursday attacked a public bus in the Guatemalan capital killing the assistant and leaving the driver seriously wounded.

The acts, motivating the presence of the Civil National Police Director Erwin Sperisen took place in the capital´s Reforma Avenue.

Sperisen said that those acts are not only related to the juvenile gangs but to the existence of destabilizing groups.

The criminal acts, so far committed in the outskirts where public transportation service has been paralyzed many times, include attacks, extortions, blackmails and death threats, part of the dangers suffered by over 3,000 bus drivers every day.

In some regions criminals charge drivers for a sort of a traffic tax and murder those refusing to pay for it.
