Nicaraguan Rightwing in Crisis
Forty-eight hours before the close of registration of election alliances, neither threats from the US Embassy nor big money have had the power to unite Nicaragua's rightwing.

With the deadline set for Thursday midnight no rightwing candidate seems willing to give up his presidential ambitions in favor of another to preserve the unity the US desperately seeks.

PLC´s Jose Rizo (Partido Liberal Constitucionalista), and PLC dissident-now leader of Alianza Liberal Nicaraguense- Eduardo Montealegre held a fruitless meeting Tuesday promoted by business circles.

Meanwhile, US Ambassador Paul Trivelli continues to threaten the PLC in favor of the US preferred Montealegre, fearing the FSLN´s (Sandinista National Liberation Front) growing chance to win the Nov 5 elections.

FSLN candidate and former President Daniel Ortega already registered his alliance with ten other groups, including old political foes disappointed by 16 years of failed neoliberal policy.
