Taxis To Take To The Streets Again On March 27
Here we go again. Taxi drivers announced yesterday that they will take to the streets, again, on Monday March 27, to pressure the Legislative Assembly to pass the bill that would eliminate "el porteo" - informal taxi services.

The Foro Nacional de Taxistas (taxi association) announced the date yesterday after being patient more than a week on a promise made to them on March 7, that the bill would be quickly passed. The taxi association says they do not have the required support for the bill and will take to the streets again and again until it is passed.

According to Ronald Acuña, president of Fenacotaxi, his union has been faced with a lack of political will power to meet their demands and have no other alternative that to manifest their position, this time with more support by more taxi and bus drivers.

"We have already shown to this country and the different government heads, with all respect, the power that we have. Please, do not provoke us further because we don't know when this situation could get out of hand", said Acuña.

The taxi drivers have only been able to gather support from legislators of the Partido Accion Cuidadana (PAC) and the Bloque Patriotico and some independent legislators. The rest of the deputies say that they are not in favour of the arguments by the taxi drivers.

Acuña was critical of legislative deputies, saying that many prefer to waste time on things that are not important. "We will be out in full force concentrated in San José but also throughout the country", said Acuña.
