Mid Year Vacation
Reservations Luke Warm
Although the numbers aren't that
bad, certainly the hotel
reservations for the mid year
vacations are luke warm in
comparison to the same period
last year. The Cámara Nacional
de Turismo (Canatur) reports
that only 57.34% of the rooms
are already booked.
The study was down last week by
the employees of Canatur who
knocked on the door of 32 tour
operators, most of which were
small hotels in the areas of
Jacó, Heredia, Osa, Arenal,
Guanacaste, Limón, Puntarenas
and San José.
"It is a level that is not bad
but is lower in comparison to
last year, which could be due to
increased insecurity and poor
roads", said Alberto López,
executive director of Canatur.
López added that the figures are
not alarming since Costa Ricans
are accustomed to deciding the
last minute on their vacation
plans.
Puntarenas and Jacó beaches are
favourite among nationals, two
of the beaches closest to the
Central Valley. López said most
hotels have kept prices at the
same level as last year,
contrary to the public opinion
and have special vacation
promotional packages available
to attract Ticos.
