European Donation For Trains
The European Union is willing to
donate 400,000 euros in order to
expand the train service in the
Metropolitan Area. The Costa
Rican Board of Railways (INCOFER
in Spanish) has to make a
similar amount available to the
same end.
This donation is in addition to
one for some 600,000 euros
destined to extend the electric
train service to Heredia.
INCOFER chief executive Miguel
Carabaguiaz said that there are
several options to obtain the
maximum benefit from the
European donation, including the
expansion of the current train
service –which currently links
Pavas, to the west of the
capital city, with the
University of Costa Rica, in San
Pedro de Montes de Oca, to the
east of San José – to the city
of Cartago, to Curridabat, or to
San Antonio de Belen.
