Nicaraguan Students Keep up
Fight
The relative calm that reigns
Thursday in Managua streets
could be broken from tomorrow
with a student meeting to define
new protest actions against the
illegal rise of public transport
fees.
University students, who have
been protesting the transport
prices imposed since May, will
assemble Friday to redefine
their fight´s strategies.
Although the National Assembly
passed a proposal for over two
million dollars credit, truckers
say the figure is not enough to
pay their February and March
debts and reduce transport
tariffs to their original cost.
Protests have been staged to
change the inalterable position
of the Executive, which affirms
the solution to the crisis
concerns the Managua Mayor´s
office, which says it has no
funds to subsidize transport
workers.
Meanwhile, the police have
admitted a lack of tear gas and
rubber bullets to control
student riots.
