Nicaraguan Health Workers May
Strike Again
Nicaragua´s Federation of Health
Workers (FETSALUD) has
threatened to go on strike again
if the government insists in
failing to fulfill agreements
signed to end a five-month
strike in April.
According to union leader
Gustavo Porras, health
authorities refuse to pay
incentives and extra hours to
FETSALUD workers, including
doctors, nurses and other staff.
Hospitals will join the strike
if they fail to pay, warned
Porras at the conclusion of
Wednesday´s meeting with
Minister Margarita Gurdian.
The minister said the government
is fulfilling agreements
gradually.
Meanwhile, hundreds of health
workers blocked the main
entrance of the Health Ministry
and La Mascota Children´s
Hospital in Managua while the
meeting between Porras and
Gurdian was being held, local
radio reported.
