Venezuela Up for UN Security
Council
Venezuela ratified its candidacy
for the UN Security Council on
Tuesday and announced that its
participation in this body will
serve the interests of peace,
understanding and sovereignty of
peoples.
According to ABN Bolivarian News
Agency, Venezuelan Vice
President Jose Vicente Rangel
said Venezuelan Foreign policy
can only be described as
independent, sovereign and pro
multi-polarity.
Rangel welcomed support given to
Venezuela´s candidacy by
Argentina, Brazil and other
regional countries.
He described US pressure on
Chile in this regard as an
“error”, and said the government
of Michelle Bachelet is
thoroughly examining the
situation.
Regarding relations with Peru,
which are currently frozen,
Rangel said normalization of
ties depends on Peruvian
President-elect Alan Garcia.
He recalled that during his
candidacy Garcia insulted
Venezuelan President Hugo
Chavez, and said the ball is now
in Peru´s court.
On Sunday, Chavez expressed his
willingness to normalize
relations if Garcia apologizes.
