No Blood in Honduran Hospitals
Honduran Human Rights Regional Official Wilfredo Castellanos reacted with surprise and dismay Tuesday after blood service to local hospitals was suspended due to the millions owed by the Health Ministry to the Red Cross.

The service is not suspended to hospitals but to people that really need it, said Castellanos who called on health authorities to reach an agreement and resolve a situation infringing citizens´ right to medical assistance.

One of the worst situations was reported in Mario Rivas Hospital in San Pedro de Sula, the country´s second most important city where there is no blood.

Relatives of patients admitted to the hospital in the last three days have paid great amounts of money to obtain a blood unit, but most of them have no money to afford the costs of the tests.
