Bolivian Indigenous Denounce Conspiracy
Eastern Bolivia’s Indigenous Peoples Confederation (CIDOB) Monday denounced an oligarchic anti-government conspiracy to encourage violence to preserve the unused large estates.

A report issued by the indigenous confederation states that oligarchic groups of the eastern region of Santa Cruz, repeatedly accused of separatism and linked to Bolivian conservative political forces, intend to destabilize the country.

Thus they are trying to consolidate the large estates that the new agrarian policy intends to distribute among poor farmers as established by the Constitution and laws, the report continues.

Defenders of the huge estates and traffickers in land, disguised as civic and agriculture organizations, make use of the media to instigate violence and distort what the government says.

The Indigenous Peoples Confederation considers the government´s restructure of agrarian policy will make it possible for farmers and indigenous to fairly accede to lands.

Meanwhile, President Evo Morales ratified on Sunday the state decision to distribute unproductive or illegally owned lands among needy farmers.

Landowners reject that policy and have threatened to call armed groups to prevent its implementation, while the government has repeatedly called on them to dialogue to solve the differences.
