Costa Rica In the Limelight
Even though the score plays against Costa Rican hopes of advancing to the second stage of the World Cup, the fact that the team played the inaugural game placed Costa Rica in the limelight, because of the millions and millions of football fans who watched the match on television around the world.

This exposure was taken advantage of to promote Costa Rica as a tourist destination, not only in Germany and Europe but globally.

The benefits to the Costa Rican tourism industry cannot be calculated, but tourism experts feel the after effect of the World Cup exposure could be seen for years to come.

1.6 million tourists are expected to visit Costa Rica this year, notwithstanding the bad roads and the Instituto Costarricense de Turismo (ICT) is looking to improve those numbers in the coming years.

The Costa Rican national team lost to Germany 4-2 on Friday (June 9) and play Ecuador on Thursday, June 15 and Poland on Tuesday, June 20.

Costa Rica is now tied with Poland in last place for the division. But, no matter what the soccer team does, all Costa Ricans will surely benefit.

Costa Rica's Paulo Wanchope, right, celebrates with teammate Leonardo Gonzales, left, after he scored the 1-1 for his team during the Germany v Costa Rica.
