Guatemala Campesinos still
Protest
More than 100 campesino
families, who have been
occupying the Central Park in
Guatemala City since the last
week, expressed their
willingness to continue
protesting despite the series of
health problems suffered by some
demonstrators.
At least six people were taken
to hospitals for diarrhea and
vomiting while ten others
temporarily left for different
diseases.
Despite adverse climate
conditions, protestors said they
will remain camping until the
government meets their demands.
They want land and justice for
those responsible of the
kidnapping of their leader
Hector Perez Reyers.
These people were violently
evicted from southwestern Nueva
Linda farm in August 2004, an
action that resulted in nine
campesinos dead, among them
three minors.
