Court Hands Out 360 Years
Sentence For Killing Police
Officer
Killing a police officer in
Costa Rica has a high price, as
the Tribunal de Juicio de Limón
decided to give three men a
total of 360 years behind bars,
found guilty of the murder of a
police officer while being
pursued.
Isaías Guevara Vásquez, Roberto
Castrillo Artola and Willor
Davis Rickets were each
sentenced to 120 years prison,
but under the law, will each
have to spend only the next 50
years in prison. The men were
also found guilty of robbery and
two counts of attempted murder
that contributed to the
unusually long sentences.
The crime was committed last
November when in Matina de Limón
where five suspects where wanted
by police assaulting a street
money changer. The men were
spotted by a police patrol that
gave chase to the men when they
began to flee in a stolen
vehicle.
Police gave chase and gun battle
ensued, one of the bullets
hitting police officer Fajardo
in the head as the bullet went
through the police car
windshield.
The men were apprehended
following the chase and
shootout. Two of the men were
not tried and sentenced as they
did not show up for their court
date.
