Four Men Sent to Five Years Jail For Stealing Three Cows
The Tribunal de Juicio de San Carlos sentenced four men each five years in prison for stealing and butchering three dairy cows. And, in addition to the prison, the man will be required to pay the cost of the legal process.

Sentenced wed two brothers, aged 23 and 26, identified by their last names Rodríguez, a 36 years old man identified by his last name, Ruiz, and his 21 year old stepson, identified by his last name, Hurtado.

All four men are from Los Guido de Desamparados, one of the poorest neighbourhoods south of San José.

Judges, Marco Salas, Luis Fernando Calderón and Marco Lizano applied the minimum sentence allow by law for this sort of crime and took into account that the men did not a criminal record.

The four men were taken into custody several minutes after leaving the private property owned by Juan Carlos Corrals in Florencia, San Carlos, in a vehicle travelling at a high speed, which alerted the officers of the loca Fuerza Pública (police).

This was was back on October 20, 2005.

Once police detained the vehicle and on summary inspection of the license and registration, the officers noted several plastic bags which contained fresh meat, the result of butchering the cows.

At trial, the accused men accepted culpability and asked to be forgiven for their actions.
