President Morales and
Constituent Assembly
Bolivia concentrates interest in
the Constituency Assembly and
the presidential call to vest it
with plenipotentiary powers to
decide the country's future.
President Evo Morales and his
party Movement Towards Socialism
(MAS) are the majority force
within the Assembly but lack the
two thirds (125 of 140 seats)
needed to approve a new
constitution.
The MAS will announce Friday new
allies with Movimiento Ayra
-heads the group of small forces
willing to join in, along
Concertacion Nacional and
Alianza Social (center left with
13 seats).
MAS Congressman Cesar Navarro
denounced hostile maneuvers to
discredit the president and
confuse via photocopies with a
false version of the Carta Magna
outlining extreme radical terms.
Foreign Minister David
Choquehuanca confirmed the
presence of Presidents Nestor
Kirchner (Argentina), Luiz
Inacio Lula da Silva (Brazil),
Nicanor Duarte (Paraguay) and
Hugo Chavez (Venezuela).
