20,000 Rejected
Immigration Service agents
rejected 20,847 foreigners at
ports of entry during the first
six months this year.
Of the total, 97 percent were
Nicaraguan.
Also, the law-enforcement agency
deported 297.
Those rejected where people who
were not allowed to enter Costa
Rica because they did not have
proper traveling documents,
tried to enter illegally, or had
impediments preventing them from
entering Costa Rica.
Most of the rejections took
place at the border crossings
from Nicaragua at Peñas Blancas
and Los Chiles.
