Cartagena Ready for Central American Games
Streets of Cartagena in Colombia were swarmed with people on Friday talking about baseball players, boxers, swimmers and athletes, as this city gets ready to host 20th Central American and Caribbean Games.

On the eve of this sports event's opening ceremony, Cartagena gathers athletes from 34 disciplines and shares sub venues with Barranquilla, Bogota, Santo Domingo and Mexico.

The delegation from Cuba, who has been the main winner at 10 of the 19 Central American and Caribbean Games, hoisted its flag in the traditional Las Banderas Square, in Cartagena.

The president of the Cuban Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation, Christian Jiménez, told Prensa Latina that Cuban delegations to participate in the Central American and Caribbean Games include 957 members, 587 of them competing.

The Cuban official, who arrived in this Colombian city heading a delegation along with the President of the Cuban Olympic Committee, José Ramón Fernández, said that is the largest delegation sent to this sports event since 1993.

Meanwhile, the director of security for this sports event, Colombian colonel Efraín Romero, said that 5000 members of the Colombian police, Navy, and Security Department were ready to guarantee security and protect athletes, authorities, tourists, fans and journalists at the 20th Central American and Caribbean Games.
