Vote Counts
Every vote counts and Costa
Ricans are urged to get out
today and vote. In San José,
cars with flags waving and horns
blowing began early this
morning.
The polls open at 8am, when
2.550.613 electors are expected
to cast a vote for a president,
two vice presidents, 57
legislative deputies and 1.002
municipal leaders.
Throughout the country there are
6.163 polling stations. A 30%
abstention is expected,
according to calculations by the
Tribuanl Supremo de Elecciones (TSE).
Today's election is number 14
since the November 7, 1949, when
Costa Rica adopted the current
Political Constitution.
Today, voters have abandoned the
traditional and uproaring
caravans of the past, preferring
to visit the polling booths
quickly and quietly.
The weather today is a but
chilly, as the country is
experiencing lower temperatures
during the last several days due
to a cold front from the Gulf of
Mexico, that has also brought
winds and rain.|
The election results are
expected to be final by not
later than 9pm tonight.
