Salvadoran Journalists Denounce Threats
Threats, information negative, anti-press laws and murders count among the 35 cases of violations denounced by El Salvador Journalists Association in its annual report.

The homicide of the 26-year old journalist Douglas Hernandez working as correspondent of the Graphic Press local paper in the northern department of Chalatenango stands out.

Similarly, the Association condemns the aggressions against at least a dozen of press workers covering the acts occurred on July 5 around the National University.

That day, there was a clash between the police agents of the Order Maintenance Unit and demonstrators of the El Salvador University protesting the increase of the transportation tariffs and defending other demands.

The threats and aggressions against several reporters in the country´s eastern region on November 23 were also rejected.

According to Serafin Valencia, president of the Association, journalists are victims of the growing public insecurity, we are victims of the vulnerability lived in the nation, he asserted.

The Salvadoran journalists called on the legislature to reform the article 6 of the Constitution referred to the freedom of speech.
