Nicaragua Shuffle May Beget Assembly
The Nicaraguan Liberal Alliance (PALN) dissident force, split from the Constitutional Liberal Party (PLC), is ready to back future constitutional reforms and even an eventual Constituent Assembly, announced a political source.

According to Eliseo Nuñez that will be at the ALN seat in the Parliament that regulation has already been told to the Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN) who won the elections on November 5.

"Our proposition is to open negotiations in order to make constitutional reforms, to fix all the State powers," assured the future legislator cited by El Nuevo Diario Thursday.

The ALN, whose candidate Eduardo Montealegre was second in the contest will have 23 seats at the National Assembly.

Montealegre s party is also ready to postpone for another year the implementation of controversial constitutional reforms approved late in 2004 to limit the Executive s powers.

Those initiatives were boosted by the PLC and the FSLN to put pressure on the outgoing dignitary Enrique Bolaños who considered them a technical coup d état.

The Sandinista Renewal Movement, fourth force in the new government, won five seats although is unknown if Bolaños will have the seat given to him by constitutional regulation.
