Honduran Official on Attractive
Chinese Offer
A total of 150,000 tons of
Honduran banana, which is over
the Honduran national production
of banana, is offered to the
Honduran government by China,
said Honduran-Chinese
Development Foundation president
Carlos Kattan in statements
given Tuesday.
Kattan said entrepreneurs from
China are interested in this
kind of purchase, which he
regarded as an "attractive
offer."
Kattan said that Honduras would
earn 10,000 dollars for each
container with banana exported
to China, while it only gets
6,000 with the US.
Honduras loses between 15 and 20
percent because of the number of
units disregarded by US
companies, but he stated
Honduran banana producers would
have to set the bases for new
production areas to cover the
Chinese proposal.
On the new negotiations with
China, he said that Honduras
acquired different products in
2006, for a value of 32 million
dollars.
