Ecuador-Colombia Ties Precarious
Relations between Ecuador and
Colombia are worse than ever
Saturday, due to the lack of
negotiations and Bogota's
persistence to spray with
glyphosate near the border.
Ecuadorian President Alfredo
Palacios refusal to welcome his
Colombian counterpart, Alvaro
Uribe, in Quito caused a huge
stir in Bogota, but found
political support here.
Correa also annulled his visit
to Colombia, thus putting Uribe
in an uncomfortable situation.
The latter, in turn, threatened
not to attend the inauguration
ceremony in Ecuador.
In addition, the Ecuadorian
chancellery announced it is
preparing a demand to be
presented at the Inter-American
Human Rights Court for the
resumption of spray with
glyphosate, which is harmful for
its population along the border.
According to local reports,
researcher Socorro Ramirez, an
expert in Colombia-Ecuador
links, pointed out "Uribe s
decision once again shows that
Colombian governments attach
very little value to the
relation with Ecuador." hr dig
