Electoral Reform Raises Inconformity
The decision of the Panamanian Parliament to exclude public financial support for political campaigns and allow for anonymous donors within a reform has sparked severe criticism among various sectors.

The Unicameral Congress of Panama passed the project of reform on the Electoral Code during its third session. However, changes proposed did not convince many.

Justice and Peace Commission Director Maribel Jaen expressed concern on the decision ruling out those proposals from the new initiative.

She recalled that the limit time for donors was agreed by representatives of politic organizations like the Democratic Revolutionary Party.

Similarly, leader of the Union Patriotica Party Jorge Fabrega pointed out that the new endorsement goes to the detriment of a year of debates.

The project also allows to vote in favor of Panamanians living abroad, to boost independent nominations for deputies and makes primary elections within parties obligatory.
