Chavez, Correa Focus on
Integration
The agenda of Ecuadorian
president-elect Rafael Correa in
Venezuela is centered on a new
integration strategy based on
solidarity and economic
complementation.
Upon his arrival to Caracas on
Wednesday, Correa assured his
nation wants a united, fair and
prosperous continent.
He noted he will work to move
towards the merger of the Andean
Community of Nations (CAN) and
the Common Market of the South,
the main integration projects in
South America.
The Ecuadorian leader also
announced he will request
Caracas to return to CAN.
Correa and Venezuelan President
Hugo Chavez will discuss energy
complementation, mainly the
exchange of crude oil for
derivates and the construction
of refineries.
Chavez announced the possibility
of enhancing presence of the
state-run company PETROECUADOR
in the Orinoco Strip project,
with important hydrocarbon
reserves.
