Chile Communists for Voting
Reform
The Communist Party of Chile (PCC)
delivered a letter to President
Michelle Bachelet demanding the
modification of the exclusive
electoral bi-nominal system and
a law against corruption.
"It is time to step forward in
democratization and clearness
and neither public money nor
private should distort state
power," reads the letter.
PCCs original proposal of
electoral reform to reach a
non-exclusive proportional
system, pluri-nominal and with
representative zoning, was
rejected by Renovacion Nacional
and governing Concertacion
parties.
The PCC proposes to maintain a
threshold of 5 percent, in order
to make a more inclusive system
and to increase the number of
deputies to be chosen.
It says other parties are
willing to work to reach
electoral system reform and
achieve a profound
anti-corruption law and non
electoral intervention.
