Venezuela Says No to Drug
Charges
Venezuelan authorities strongly
rejected statements made by the
US Ambassador to Caracas, who
denounced an increase of drug
trafficking through the
Venezuelan territory.
The reality is that the
Venezuelan fight against drug
trafficking is shown in the
seizure of tons of drugs, which
refutes Washington's remarks.
The diplomat said that the
increase was seen after an
agreement with the US Anti Drug
Department concluded in 2005.
Venezuelan Minister of Interior
and Justice Jesse Chacon
recalled that 77.5 tons of drugs
were seized last year while
135.5 tons of drugs have been
confiscated since June 2005,
when the collaboration agreement
was suspended.
Chacon added that Caracas counts
on cooperation of Canada, Great
Britain, Spain, Curazao, Aruba
and Colombia to fight drug
trafficking.
He noted that if the US
administration is seeking to
collaborate, it should do so
with respect and ratified that
Venezuela will continue fighting
drug trafficking.
