Cemetery Wedding A First For
Costa Rica
Although difficult to believe, a
young couple chose the
Cementerio de Sabanilla, Montes
de Oca, to give their wedding
vows after not being able to
find an available church for
their wedding.
The idea came from the groom's
father who has worked in the
cemetery for the last 24 years
and getting the approval of his
bosses.
This is the first wedding in
Costa Rica to be held in a
cemetery. The ceremony began at
3:00pm in the cemetery chapel.
Although the idea was kind of
creepy at first, the bride,
Yessenia Quirós, slowly warmed
to the idea because of the love
she has for Gilbert and the
child she is carrying in her
womb.
December is a big wedding month
- the 24th is one the biggest
wedding day - in Costa Rica and
all churches are booked well in
advance and the reason for the
couple not being able to find an
available church.
