Honduras against Modern Slavery
"Honduras should fulfill
international agreements and
eradicate the trade of human
beings," said Omar Cerna, deputy
district attorney.
"It is an issue that delays
fulfillment of the International
Convention of Palermo and it
could cause economic sanctions,"
Cerna said in a press
conference.
"The country must begin concrete
actions like law reform and
development of strategies to
fight that crime," he stated.
"We consider that violation as a
modern version of slavery, whose
consequences are disastrous and
permanent for the affected
person," he specified.
Cerna said that almost a million
women and children are victims
of the trade of human beings all
over the world, with sexual,
labor, military, drug traffic
and servitude purposes.
Authorities lack effective
mechanisms to destroy the
organized networks to
incorporate the victims into
society, he also pointed out.
