Panama Legislator Yeas Regional
Unity
President of Panama's
congressional Friendship with
Cuba Group, Carlos Alvarado,
highlighted regional
integration, as a mechanism to
step up the peoples' struggle
for a better future.
He told Prensa Latina of his
intention to exchange views with
Cuban legislators and also learn
firsthand about the state of
health of Cuban President Fidel
Castro, who is recovering from
surgery.
"It will be important for
Panamanians to know about Fidel
Castro's health, that he is
recovering well, according to
what Ricardo Alarcon [president
of Cuba's National Assembly]
told me," said Alvarado.
On inter-legislative relations,
he said "they are better than
ever, and we are very pleased
with that."
He considered bilateral
relations at a peak time, as
world solidarity with the Island
is ever-increasing.
Regarding the Non-Aligned
Movement Summit to be held in
Havana in September, he said
Third World countries have
pinned their hopes on it.
"The Non-Aligned Movement will
help us revive, with Cuba at its
presidency, as it had waned and
it is time to revitalize it," he
said.
Alvarado called for fighting US
hegemony and said Third World
countries have a crucial role to
play on the international scene.
We, the people, "must take a
stand on this, and I think that
the Bolivarian Alternative for
the Americas is a dream come
true for all Latin Americans."
