Over 500 Reporters to cover NAM
Summit
More than 500 journalists from
Cuba and the world have applied
for credentials to cover the
14th Summit Conference of the
Non-Aligned Movement (NAM),
scheduled for Sept. 11-16 in
Havana.
Jose Luis Ponce, director of the
International Press Center, told
the Cuban News Agency (ACN) that
the number of reporters might
increase over the next few days.
Ponce noted that out of the
total number of applicants, 104
are foreign correspondents from
36 counties permanently
accredited in Cuba, while 200
journalists work for national
media organizations.
He added 250 reporters from 25
countries have applied for
credentials so far to cover that
major Third World meeting, which
will be held in Cuba for the
second time. In 1979, Havana
hosted the sixth NAM Summit.
Less than a month before the
14th NAM Summit begins, Cuba is
putting the finishing touches on
the protocol and logistics of
the conference, which will be
attended by delegations from all
116 member countries.
