Colombian FM to Tackle Dispute
in Panama
Colombia's Foreign Minister
Maria Consuelo Araujo is due to
arrive today in Panama, to
analyze migratory issue and
trade dispute between both
countries.
According to a release by
Panamanian Foreign Minister
Samuel Lewis Navarro, the aim of
Araujo's brief visit is also to
examine restrictions imposed by
Bogota to re-exports from the
Colon Free Zone.
That initiative obliged Panama
to denounce its neighboring
nation at the World Trade
Organization, problem in which
was supported by several
countries like China, Pakistan
and Indonesia. The migratory
item is a concern for Panama.
With the aim of achieving an
accord, national authorities
have proposed a cooperation
agreement on custom information,
but Bogota announced it will
lift restrictions three months
after signing the pact.
